In order for the Club to continue to grow and flourish, we are looking for more players, who are in Year 1 at school to come along with a view to being involved in an Under 7 Team next season 2012 - 2013, when they will be in Year 2 at School. We currently have a Colts Section who come along to the Recreation Ground at the Junction of the A 21 and Tubbenden Lane on a Saturday Morning and are looking for more members at that age. The current crop of players that come along are mainly in Reception at their School and therefore will not be eligible to play at Under 7 until the following season. It will take Place at :-  The Priory Sports Centre, Orpington, Kent and will run on Thurs 22nd December 2011 & Friday 23rd December 2011 from 10am till 3.30pm . Cost £28 Boys will need to be in Kit with Shin Pads , Weather Appropriate Clothing, Packed Lunch and Lots to Drink.   I hope that they will be out on the 3G Pitches but if the weather is bad we will deliver the course inside. So can boys please wear Moulded Studs (NO METALS STUDS ALLOWED !!!) they will also need Trainers or Astros should they need to go inside. Boys will need Outside and Indoor Boots. We have to run with a strict Ratio of Coach to Boys so we are limited the number of boys we can accept per age group. Boys on 2 day course are invited from Orpington Rovers FC age groups U9, U10 & U11's These courses have been run in the past and been very enjoyable and lots of fun for the boys. We delivered a course in October 2011 to other age groups of Orpington Rovers FC and had very positive feedback. All boys must be booked onto the course in advance and no boys can be accepted on the day . We have had the usual amount of work done on the pitches in the summer, and despite the dry weather, they are looking absolutely fantastic, and will, I am sure, remain the envy of sides visiting our ground. We were able to try them out for the memorial game in August as part of the celebration of the life of Bob Hitchcock, who tragically died of a heart problem a couple of months ago. Bob put more than two decades of effort into the Club as a player, a manager and for many years was our groundsman, where part of his legacy are the tremendous playing facilities we now have. Can I take this opportunity to thank Alan McIlvaney, Colin Buller, Keith King who have continued the work after Bob - without the aid of our tractor and mower which were stolen in a burglary at the ground not long after Bob died. For this season we are having the grass cut by the team who do our between season maintenance. The Club is saving up to get improvements to our watering capability and to replace the stolen tractor and mower. Tracy Airey is putting her usual vigour into our fundraising work. We need your help to get the money for these important schemes - so please support our fundraising events - the first is a Race Night on 19th November. Obviously we want all our teams to do well, but the most important thing for the Club is that sportsmanship prevails, and we set high standards of behaviour on on off the field by both players and spectators. A creditable 1-1 draw in the first half was interrupted by half time, when the most notable event was the entire team complaining to the manager that if he continued with his inspirational team talk, they would not be able to stand, talk or move during the second half. And so this proved to be the case, despite some noteworthy performances from the managers team as the years were rolled back. We would like to congratulate the Under 17's second half performance, enhanced by a refereeing decision of some "stuffed brown envelope" proportions with the award of a dubious penalty. Goal Scorer for the Managers was the Birthday Boy - Geoff Airey Goal Scorers for the U17's - Matthew Mann (hat trick), Nick Whybrow (pen), Alex Lyons, Chris Bilsby. I think next year we will play 45 minutes one way....either that or we are in need of masseurs at half time....any willing volunteers???!!! I would like to thank the NHS who were able to cope with a rush of patients to casualty at the end of the game, notable Nick Bury (concussion), Steve Barnes (swollen ankle), Neil Barnes (swollen and bruised foot), and others who suffered on the day with shoulder injuries and knees collapsing! At our birth back in 1979, we began our life on park pitches which were about as flat as the sides of Ben Nevis, and whose playing surfaces at best resembled a ploughed field. Now we have excellent playing surfaces - the envy of all around - in a ground of our own, with changing rooms, floodlight training area, and we run 17 top quality highly professional teams. Organisations grow or die. We need to keep moving forward . But to do this we need energy and money. There are some really encouraging levels of energy - as evidenced at last night's meeting where Rinaldo (let me embarrass him) took forward work to install a drinks machine (electrics/contract/money), as well as persevering in his efforts to make the IT illiterate amongst use the web site he created. We also made some progress on the kitchen - although it was disappointing we could not do this entirely through volunteers. We will, I guess, always need more help. And now a few Thank You's - To Alan - our secretary - a founder member of the club and our longest serving survivor - many thanks for you enormous efforts and your patience with us all for our maladministration. To Brian Archer. Founder member & Treasurer To Bob Hitchcock - who has been with us almost from the start - famous for many things (including holding the record for having lost more games than anyone else in the club's history). In his other role as our voluntary groundsman I thank him for his fantastic work in maintaining our excellent pitches. Entering the bar area and grabbing a glass of champagne, guests were invited to purchase Lucky Envelopes, hand stuffed by Tracy and her team. Lucky winners later ranged from a meal for two, superb football tickets to a flashing warning triangle, which for some unknown reason the lucky winner left behind. Also check out the e-mail cirulated to all managers with some great pictures from early evening, from our resident professional photographer---anything later on has been deleted to protect the guilty and innocent! The meal was fantastic and the speeches easily forgotten, but thanks to those who took part in the red/yellow card game. Lastly, some of the dance moves on display reminded most of us of elderly giraffes trying to ice skate downhill in a hurricane- seriously it was a great dance off even Brucie would have been proud of. The band were superb and the disco just finished the night off with real energy. The carriages home arrived just in time and we look forward t o our next Ball in March 2011.
